DESCRIPTION

This 360° panorama, titled “Climbing”, was captured by Alex in the Fitz Roy area of Patagonia, his personal vision of one of the most iconic mountain regions on Earth. When he began planning this scouting expedition, he knew that photographing such a famous location would be a challenge. Countless masters of landscape photography had already captured it from every imaginable angle, so creating something new required going beyond the obvious. Together with his teammate Lorenzo Tenti, Alex decided to rely on a mountain guide and attempt an alpine route that would take them higher than most photographers ever reach. To be on the summit at sunrise meant climbing through the night, a demanding effort where weather conditions could change at any moment. That night, under a clear sky, they chose to forgo the sunrise and focus instead on capturing the Milky Way over Fitz Roy, a photograph that would come later. Once daylight arrived, Alex decided to create this 360° panorama, the first of his career entirely shot while secured to the rock with rope and Kevlar slings. The experience was extraordinary. Hanging from the summit, facing the glacier and the massive granite peak of Fitz Roy, he realized that no photograph could ever fully match the emotion of that moment, yet this image comes close.
