DESCRIPTION

This photograph, titled “Last Touch”, was captured by Alex in the heart of the Tunisian Sahara during the 2023 expedition. The camp stood more than three hours from the nearest village, completely isolated, without electricity or phone signal, only sand, silence, good food, and one of the most extraordinary skies on Earth. After two days of travel from Tunis, the team arrived in the middle of a sandstorm. The air was thick and grey, visibility almost zero, the camp half-buried and the atmosphere surreal, like a post-apocalyptic film. Despite the conditions, Alex began shooting, documenting the desert’s rare and dramatic mood. As the day faded, the storm slowly cleared. During the traditional evening ritual of baking bread under the sand, the sky began to open. Then came the moment of pure magic: a winter Milky Way rising above the dunes, illuminating the desert as if it were daylight. The air was so clean that every galactic dust cloud and dark nebula was visible to the naked eye, a spectacle almost impossible to witness anywhere else. Alex and his companions spent the entire night photographing, following the Milky Way as it shifted from the winter arc to the summer core. It was one of those rare nights when exhaustion disappears, replaced by wonder. “Last Touch” is more than an image, it is a memory of timeless silence, of the desert’s raw beauty, and of the privilege of feeling small under a perfect sky.
