DESCRIPTION

This 360° panorama, titled “Outclassed”, was captured by Alex on June 10, 2024, along the dramatic coast of Asturias in northern Spain. The image was taken with a Sony A7IV and a 12mm fisheye lens at f/8, ISO 100, and 1/6s, during one of the most chaotic and breathtaking weather scenes he has ever witnessed. The day had started as a gamble. Storms were forming offshore, and Alex spent hours studying models, hoping that by sunset the front would shift eastward. He had already shot sunrise from the same beach, but this time nature had different plans. As he reached the shore under steady rain, lightning began to strike in the distance while mammatus clouds formed above — a phenomenon he had witnessed only twice before. At 8:30 p.m., the sky exploded in color. The storm’s last flashes lit the horizon while a double rainbow arched over the glowing orange clouds. It was an overwhelming sight, one of those rare combinations that define a career. Alex captured the full 360° panorama, surrounded by thunder, rain, and light, knowing he was exactly where he needed to be. Later that night, he discovered that several Spanish colleagues were shooting just a few hundred meters away, each recording the same extraordinary event from their own perspective. “Outclassed” stands as a testament to timing, instinct, and the perfect balance between planning and surrendering to nature’s unpredictability.
