DESCRIPTION

This 360° panorama, titled “Shiny Shapes”, was captured by Alex on the golden dunes of Jebil National Park in the Sahara Desert, Tunisia. The final image is a stitch of six multi-exposure frames, eighteen shots in total, taken at ISO 100 and f/16. The Sahara is an endless playground of forms and light. From solitary trees to sweeping dunes carved by the wind, every step offers new compositions and patterns. During the golden hour, Alex walked barefoot across the dunes, surrounded by orange tones softened by the breeze and a sky filled with thin, white cirrus clouds. The atmosphere was silent and overwhelming, a pure moment of exploration and connection with the landscape. Photographing 360° panoramas on soft sand is a challenge. Every step leaves a trace that can disrupt the composition, forcing careful planning and precision. Alex approached the scene from behind the camera setup to reduce footprints and maintain the geometry of the shot, a process that required patience and repeated adjustments until everything aligned perfectly. He decided to capture the panorama while the sun was still high enough to project his shadow across the dune. This choice added depth to the midground and a human presence that anchors the vastness of the scene. “Shiny Shapes” reflects the balance between control and spontaneity, turning one of the simplest landscapes on Earth into a study of light, form, and movement.
