This 300° panorama, titled “Waning Sun”, was captured by Alex on Senja Island, Norway, during one of the most extraordinary nights of his three-month journey from Italy to the Great North. The image is a stitch of four frames, each exposed for eight seconds at ISO 3200, f/3.5, showing the meeting of a glowing sunset and a powerful kp7 aurora dancing across the Arctic sky.
Senja holds a special place in Alex’s heart, a wild island where mountains rise straight from the sea and the sky never truly darkens in late summer. That evening, the strongest Northern Lights of the year were forecast, and nature delivered far beyond expectations. The horizon still burned with the orange light of the setting sun, while above it, waves of green, violet, and red aurora moved through the fading twilight.
Alex stood there with his family, surrounded by cold air and silence, witnessing a moment that seemed suspended in time. “Waning Sun” captures not only the spectacle of that night but the entire spirit of the journey itself, a blend of adventure, emotion, and the unrepeatable beauty of the North.
